Unless explicitly written, you can use the tokens you create with Heroic Token only for non-commercial purposes. Commercial use is allowed with the Commercial plan. Commercial is a one-time lifetime purchase.
Monthly Silver, Lifetime Silver, and Lifetime Gold are personal-use plans. They do not include a commercial license.
The copyright of all official borders and other Heroic Token artwork remains with Heroic Token. With your license, you can use your tokens for the allowed purposes, but you cannot publish Heroic Token borders or tokens as “public domain”.
You are responsible for the character portraits and other images you upload. A Heroic Token license never grants you rights to artwork you do not own.
Allowed With a Non-Commercial License #
- Using tokens in your own games, on a VTT or at the table
- Running games for friends, a club, or as a paid GM
- Streaming or recording your games (Twitch, YouTube, and similar)
- Publishing on Social Media (Instagram, Reddit, Facebook, Discord, etc.)
- Publishing in Fan Wikis
- Publishing on your non-commercial website
- Printing tokens for private use (not sold or offered for sale) for family and friends
Not Allowed With a Non-Commercial License #
- Offering tokens for sale
- Selling tokens
- Using official borders or tokens in any product or service you sell
- Using official borders or tokens in any product or service you offer for sale
- Selling token packs on Roll20, Foundry, DriveThruRPG, Patreon, itch.io, or similar
- Offering your tokens as a free bonus to another product you sell or offer (e.g. an adventure module)
- Using tokens or borders as a logo or illustration for a company
- Using tokens or borders for any institution that has employees or generates income for anyone
- Using tokens or borders for selling products during a fundraising
- Uploading borders, tokens, or other Heroic Token artwork to AI applications
Allowed with a Commercial License #
- Selling finished tokens and token packs (Roll20, Foundry, DriveThruRPG, Patreon, itch.io, your own shop, and similar)
- Using tokens in commercial adventure modules, bestiaries, or other TTRPG products
- Commissions: creating tokens for a client
- Using tokens in crowdfunding campaigns (e.g. Kickstarter)
- Using tokens as illustrations in books (print or digital)
- Using tokens for physical products like prints, cards, or stickers of the finished token
- Offering your tokens as a free bonus to another product you sell or offer
- Publishing a token on a website that earns money via ads
Not Allowed with a Commercial License #
- Selling or offering Heroic Token borders as a bundle (e.g. as a border pack on Roll20 or Etsy)
- Selling or offering source files, border PNGs, masks, or other Heroic Token assets
- Using official borders in another token maker or competing tool
- Selling or offering access to your Heroic Token account
- Publishing borders or tokens as “public domain”
- Uploading borders, tokens, or other Heroic Token artwork to AI applications
Your portraits and custom borders #
The Commercial license covers official Heroic Token borders baked into a finished token. It does not cover:
- Character portraits, photographs, or other images you upload. You must have the right to use those commercially.
- Custom borders uploaded by you, unless you created them or otherwise have the right to use them commercially.
- Custom or community-shared borders created by other users.
